
21 die in truck accident in Zimbabwe, several others injured
At least 21 people were on Saturday killed when a truck overturned in western Zimbabwe, police said on Sunday.
According to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the vehicle was carrying 69 passengers when it “failed to negotiate a curve and overturned” at a business centre in the district of Tsholotsho on Saturday evening.
Police Action Senior Staff Officer, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said several other people were injured in the accident.
He added that 15 people died at the scene while the six died in hospital. A further 21 people were wounded in the accident.
Dr Nyasha Masuka, the Matabeleland North Provincial Medical Director said 21 of the injured passengers are now admitted at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo with two in critical condition, while four are at the United Bulawayo Hospital.
Another fatal accident that happened in June left 43 people dead after a bus crashed in the north of the country along the motorway leading to neighbouring Zambia.
