Ugandan traders are optimistic that business has returned to normal after the swearing-in of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uganda depends heavily on the port of Mombasa to import and export cargo and trade between the two countries has been disrupted by the prolonged election unease in Kenya.

President Uhuru’s new open-door immigration policy for East African citizens has also been widely welcomed by Ugandan politicians.

On Tuesday, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta shortly after being sworn in announced that all Africans visiting Kenya will be issued with a visa on arrival.

“Today, I am directing that any African wishing to visit Kenya will be eligible to receive a visa at the port of entry,” the President said at the filled Kasarani Stadium in the country’s capital where thousands had gathered to witness his swearing in.

The Kenyan President also added that citizens of countries in the East African Community will be treated like Kenyans when they visit the country adding that individuals from within the EAC will need only their identity cards to work, do business, own property and farm in Kenya.
