The United States government has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto following their inauguration on Tuesday.
The U.S. pledged to work with Kenya and called for an immediate national dialogue to heal the division between communities.
“We urge Kenyans to join together to hold an immediate, sustained, and open national conversation to heal divisions between communities.
“We encourage all Kenyans to come together at this critical moment and to work together peacefully and uphold the constitution,” the statement read.
In a statement, the U.S. said it looks forward to strengthening and renewing bilateral ties with Kenya in the years to come.
During the swearing in ceremony, Mr Kenyatta said that his presidency would aim to unite Kenyans asking everyone to be their brothers keepers.

“The elections are now firmly behind us … I will devote my time and energy to build bridges,” Uhuru said.
Heads of many African nations were present at the inauguration ceremony that was held at a Nairobi’s sports stadium.
