Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday said that he will be sworn in as the people’s president on December 12.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) leader made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing his supporters at a rally in Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi, Nairobi.
Mr Odinga said he will take oath of office on December 12 using Chapter 1 of the Constitution, which states that sovereign power belongs to the people, the East African reports.
“I am not a coward, I will be sworn as president on Jamhuri Day, I am the legitimate president,” he told his supporters, who defied police operation to listen to him, during a stop-over in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.
Odinga claims he won the August 8 election but was rigged out through manipulation of figures.
“Server indicated that we had 8.8 million votes while Kenyatta had 7.1million votes,” he said.
The Supreme Court annulled the August 8 election citing irregulaties, calling for a presidential rerun on October 26, where Uhuru Kenyatta won with 98 per cent.
Odinga did not participate in the repeat election stating that forms had to be made in electoral body for credible election.
The swearing-in, he said, will be based on the results of August 8 presidential election, which he claims he won but was rigged out through manipulation of figures.
Odinga said that his inauguration will be like that of Zimbabwe’s Mnangagwa and not of Uganda’s Besigye.
