Tammy Abraham delighted by England call-up, Nigerians disappointed
Chelsea striker on loan at fellow Premier League side Swansea, Tammy Abraham, has expressed his delight at receiving a call-up to the England national team ahead of the international fixtures.
The 20-year-old switched his allegiance from Nigeria in September, and has been in impressive form for Swansea this season, scoring four goals in 10 PL games.
Nigeria’s football federation had initially said it was confident of tying the talented forward down to the Super Eagles.
The Three Lions have two friendly matches lined up – against Germany and Brazil – and Abraham will be hoping he gets a chance to prove himself worthy of the call up.
Upon receiving the call-up, he took to social media to express his delight, prompting mixed reactions from both Nigeria and England.
Words can’t describe the feeling but truly blessed and honoured to be called up to @England seniors 🙏🏾🦁⚽️thanks for all the messages ❤️

Most fans seem to have been of the opinion that Abraham’s move was a mistake, and that he would regret snubbing the African side tor the Three Lions.
Tammy Abraham choosing England over Nigeria will be the biggest mistake of his career

Tammy Abraham, welcome to the club of John Fashanu and Agbonlahor. They called you up just so you will be ineligible to play for Nigeria.

Happy for Tammy Abraham’s call up, he deserves it. But part of me thinks they just did that so he don’t go play for Nigeria. #cfc
