The death toll in the bombing that hit the centre of Mogadishu on Saturday continues to rise. It is now believed that more 300 people were killed by twin bomb explosions.
The scale of the loss makes the attack one of the most lethal terrorist acts anywhere in the world.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo on Sunday declared three days of national mourning, following the attack.
The president also urged residents to help those affected by the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
CGTN’s Abdulaziz Billow earlier reported from the exact location where the suicide bomber detonated a truck bomb on Saturday.
AU forces, Somali national army, police, intelligence are working together to clear the rubble in the hope of finding survivors from the attack.
“We’ve been here for the past three days and are continuing with the clean-up exercise. Yesterday we pulled out five people alive from the rubble. We also managed to retrieve several dead bodies. In the nearby buildings, we have been notified that there might be more bodies trapped under some damaged buildings.”
A national center has also been opened to assist people who are looking for their friends and loved ones who were caught up in that blast
