Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve was on Tuesday voted Africa’s leading national park at the World Travel Awards 2017 held in Kigali, Rwanda.
Among its competitors were South Africa’s Kruger National Park, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana, Etosha National Park, Namibia, Kidepo Valley National Park, Uganda, and Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
“We have recognised the leading lights of African tourism tonight and I wish to offer my heartfelt congratulations to all our winners,” said World Travel Awards founder and President Graham Cooke, the Daily Nation reports.
The Maasai Mara is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Africa. The reserve is located in the country’s Great Rift Valley.
The Reserve boosts of an annual wildebeest migration which involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November, this according to magical Kenya.
The reserve is home to 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds’ species.
World Travel Awards are held to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
