Harare International Carnival named the best festival in Africa

Zimbabwe’s annual Harare International Carnival has received global recognition by being named the best festival in Africa by the Europe Business Assembly (EBA) and has been bestowed the Socrates Award.

According to Zimbabwe tourism Authority (ZTA) Chief Executive, Karikoga Kaseke ZTA will receive the award in October.

“Our carnival, only in its fourth year, has been rated as the best carnival in Africa and awarded the Socrates Award which we are going to receive in October.

“It is not just the biggest, but the best in Africa and we are proud as this award not just as the ZTA and the government, but as an award for the people of Zimbabwe,” Kaseke told a press conference in Harare on Monday.

Winners of the Socrates Award meet among other requirements professional experience and achievements, personality, influence on the social and economic progress, business/scientific reputation, implementation of innovations in different spheres and modern management tools.

2017’s carnival has been touted as one of the best with an estimated 1.5 million people attending the street party on its last day which ended with a musical concert. Over 100 groups showcased their diverse cultures as people stood along the streets watching in awe.
