DRC government says troops were acting in self-defense

The Democratic Republic of Congo says it has opened an inquiry into the killing of Burundian refugees by soldiers, in the east of the country.

Security forces killed more than 30 refugees, protesting plans to repatriate them in Kamanyola. The government spokesperson Lambert Mende maintains those killed belonged to an armed group.
