Automated flying taxis set to debut in Dubai
Dubai will begin trial runs of the world’s first automated aerial taxis (AAT) by end of 2017, reports Gulf News.
The two-seater AAT will undergo test flights and safety checks over the next five years. The taxi has a maximum airspeed of 100 kilometers per hour and capable of flying continuously for 30 minutes.
The self-flying taxi is electric powered and has 18 rotors and nine independent battery systems which can be charged within 40 minutes.
AAT will become operational by efforts of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with German firm Volocopter, which specializes in manufacturing Autonomous Air Vehicles (AAV).
RTA and Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) will be working on rules and regulations for the new transport system.
