Nigeria’s military has formally admitted that the bombing of an IDP camp in January this year in the country’s northeast Borno State was a mistake.

At least 100 persons were killed when a Nigerian military jet bombed the Rann IDP on January 17 this year. The jet’s pilots had thought they were bombing a gathering of Boko haram insurgents.

Giving the report of the findings, military spokesman, Major General John Enenche, said the Rann IDP camp was not appropriately marked and that the military did not have any record of the existence of the camp at the time.

Among those killed during the incident were humanitarian workers who were working at the camp at the time.
