The 29th African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa opened with a significant development in the quest to reform the continental body.

A report presented by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has been endorsed.

The report suggests ways of achieving desired institutional reforms to make the AU more effective and self-reliant.

The first day of the summit focused on peace and security issues, as well as matters to do with investing in the African youth.

The AUC Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat projected the work to be done by the January 2018 summit starting with implementation of the relevant decisions to be taken by the Assembly in light of President Kagame’s report, on the implementation of the reform of the African Union.

Guinean President who is also the AU Chairperson Alpha Conde called for a new era of self-reliance to drive development and end poverty on the continent.
