Macky Sall Prize for Dialogue in Africa launched in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi

African leaders were yesterday asked to use dialogue to solve conflict in the region during the launch of the Macky Sall Prize for Dialogue in Africa.
The annual 50,000 Euros (Sh5.7 million) award dubbed ‘The Macky Sall Prize for Dialogue in Africa’ is named after Senegalese President Macky Sall.
The Senegalese president is praised for using dialogue to avert conflict across the continent.
The prize is meant to recognize African mediators, who use dialogue to end conflict and might rise to the same level of late South African leader Nelson Mandela.
“The prize will be awarded annually to honour and encourage all initiatives related to political and social dialogue in Africa,” Joel Hakizimana, Secretary General Independent Centre for Research and Initiatives for Dialogue (CIRID), said.
The award will be given to a deserving African, who has used dialogue to promote peace in September 2017 at the United Nations in Geneva by President of Senegal Macky Sall.
CIRID was founded in 1996 by Hakizimana, a former Burundi teacher, journalist and diplomat.
The organization works with governments, religious and civil society institutions to develop platforms for dialogue, promote sustainable development and peace across Africa and the Diaspora.
