Eighty three Malawian nationals were yesterday deported from Zimbabwe for not possessing legal documents to be in the country.

According to a senior immigration officer, who refused to be named, the Malawians had been arrested for lack of legal documentation, the local media, Herald reports.

“These Malawians were arrested in Mbare on May 31 after they were found with unstamped passports, while some had no travel documents and others had passports which did not belong to them,” he said.

Since their arrest on May 31, the 83 had been detained at Harare Remand Prison and Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Among them were 42 women, 36 women and five children under the age of 10.

The deportees received free transportation from a local bus company following a request by the Malawian embassy.
