Namibia’s National carrier, Air Namibia, has won approval to fly to the United States. The airline hopes to generate revenues through its code-sharing agreement.
Until now, the only African countries allowed to fly passengers in and out of the U.S. have been South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde.
Nigeria’s finance minister has also proposed the national carrier terminate its loss-making Windhoek-Frankfurt route.
Officials say the airline loses $2.27 million annually on that route alone.
Air Namibia is awaiting government approvals for several other new routes — mostly within Africa.
