Tanzania issues citizenship to 110 foreign nationals

The Tanzanian government on Tuesday revealed that it had granted citizenship to 110 foreign nationals in the period between July 2016 and March 2017, local media, local media outlet Citizen reports.

The country’s minister for home affairs said that the citizenship was given to 64 Indians, 15 Yemen, 5 from UAE, 5 from Kenya, 5 Rwandans, 4 Burundians, 3 Britons, 2 Somalis, 2 Congolese, a German, a Nigerian, a Zambian, a Polish, and a Lebanese.

According to the report, the announcement was made by the country’s minister for home affairs Mwigulu Nchemba on Tuesday as he was presenting his ministry’s 2017/18 budget in parliament.

The minister also announced that some Tanzanians had also acquired citizenship to other countries, including seven to Germany, 10 to Norway, 4 to India, 3 to Sweden, 2 to Uganda and one each to South Africa, Botswana, USA, Portugal, Zambia and Sri Lanka.

According to Nchemba, 55,5783 passports were issued in the period between July 2016 and March 2017.
