Africa remembers Brenda Fassie, Queen of African Pop
South Africa remembers the iconic Afropop singer, Brenda Fassie, on the 13th anniversary of her death.
MaBrr, a name her fans gave her, was renowned in Africa for her electric stage performances. Born in Langa Township near Capetown in 1964, Fassie would have been 53 this year.
Brenda was a critic of the apartheid regime and she dedicated her life through her music to fighting poverty rampant in townships, inequality, and injustice.
Coined ‘the black Madonna’ by the Time Magazine, Brenda received numerous awards and is remembered for her hit songs such as Vuli ndela, Weekend Special, Thola Amdolozi among others.
