Eight people have been killed in a crash on Thursday morning involving a minibus and a lorry near Malili shopping centre on the Nairobi-Mombassa highway.

Twelve other passengers are said to have been seriously injured.

The minibus was ferrying passengers commuting from Mtito-Andei to Nairobi when it collided head-on with a truck at 07:30 am.

According to Mukaa OCPD Zacharia Bitok, the minibus was attempting to overtake another vehicle at speed.

The driver is among the eight who were killed.

Those injured have been rushed to Machakos level 5 hospital and the bodies of the deceased taken to Machakos hospital morgue.

The incident comes barely two days after 25 people were killed in a crash involving a bus and a tanker at Kambu shopping centre in Mtito-Andei, Makueni County, early Tuesday.
