South Sudan President forms team to negotiate with Judges

On Monday night, the South Sudan President Salva Kiir issued an order to form a three-member committee to address grievances by the judges in the country threatening to down their tools discussions with judges in order to address their grievances, report Radio Tamazuj.

South Sudan judges gave notice of their intentions to stop working last week, citing poor working conditions, poor salaries and demanding reinstatement of leave benefits.

The judges called off their strike on Monday due to the on-going negotiations with the presidency.

President Kiir appointed Paulino Wanawila, the Minister of Justice as the chairman of the committee and information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth as the deputy. The presidency’s head of legal administration, Majok Mading Majok was appointed the secretary of the committee.

The committee will hold discussions with the judges and make recommendations to President Kiir on the way forward.
