
Rwandan Police peacekeepers in Haiti decorated with service medals
The United Nations has decorated eighteen Rwanda National Police Officers serving in Haiti with service medals for their outstanding peacekeeping role in the nation.
The officer serving as Individual Police officers (IPOS) under the United Nations Stabilisations Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) were decorated over the weekend in a ceremony held in Port Au Prince, The New Times reports.
Addressing the officers, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) in Haiti, Moustafa Benlamlin, said“You served with dignity, dedication and hard work and it is a pride to the UN.”
He also thanked them for their dedicated services to local security organs and going beyond their mandate to support local communities.
Minustah Police Commissioner, Brig Gen Monchotte, hailed Rwanda for taking part in several peacekeeping missions around the world.
He emphasised that the country is a very important partner of the United Nations in the context of peacekeeping.
Rwanda has over 6,000 peacekeepers in all missions, who also including military and prisons.
