Ghana launches a Malaria Foundation to eradicate the disease by 2030

Ghana’s first lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, inaugurated a national Malaria Foundation that will spear head the fight against malaria with a goal to eliminate the disease by 2030, report Ghana News Agency.

According to the first lady the Ghana Malaria Foundation is critical in ensuring continuous investment and sustained commitment for malaria prevention and control.

Malaria control invention will reduce work and school absenteeism which has caused to low productivity and under development, thus eradicating malaria will improve productivity and business growth, especially for business in agricultural, banking, industries and manufacturing sectors.

The first lady appealed to the business community and other stakeholders to contribute generously to the Foundation for the sustenance of country wide malaria control programmes and activities.

Malaria is one of the leading causes of death in Ghana but progress over the years has a 70 per cent reduction in the death rate. However, Malaria remains a public health concern as it varies in transmission intensity and devastating children under five years and pregnant mostly.
