PFA Player of the Year to be named today, N’Golo Kanté tipped to win
The greatest talents of the English premier League will be in attendance tonight at the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Awards, as the league’s Player of the Year will be announced.
The players that have been nominated for the award are; N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez.
Various football analysts have tipped Kante to win the accolade after a great year for him that has seen him help Chelsea be on the verge of winning the 2016/17 Premier League.
If Chelsea wins the league, Kante will become only the second player in history win the title with different clubs in successive seasons after Mark Schwarzer last year.
The Frenchman has been hailed by many as the Premier League’s best midfielder currently, always cushioning his team’s defense and giving the forwards an easier time to maraud their opposition.
The 26-year-old has also been hailed for his work rate. He is ranked third in terms of distance covered by a player in the Premier League, after Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. The Frenchman has covered a total of 360.6km, the equivalent of eight marathons since the start of the season.
His extraordinary energy has allowed him to make more ball recoveries than any other outfield player this season. In Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool in February, he made 14 tackles – the most by any player in a single game all season.
Pitted against goal-scorers like Hazard, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku, Kane and Sanchez, Kante still stands out, and winning the PFA award tonight would highlight his revelation in the Premier League.
