CRBC awards winners of the 2017 edition of the SGR photography competition

China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the contractor for the Standard Gauge Railway, has presented awards to the winners of the SGR photography competition 2017 edition.

The 2017 edition, an artistic project to nurture creativity and use of photography to tell stories aims at encouraging people to look for unity in diversity and excellence in building the SGR project.

800 signed for the competition, 25 were shortlisted, 13 to be awarded. Mr. Guo Qing deputy general manager SGR said.

The competition was open to talented photographers residing in Kenya with a sense of adventure and an eye for detail.

They took the journey from Mombasa and tracked the CRBC projects all the way to Nairobi, showcasing the projects’ infrastructural footprint in Kenya and the impact of their contribution in the target sites.

“This year professional photographers have been used to help tell the story of the SGR. Last year both professional and amateur were used,” Engineer Johnson math project coordinator TAEC consortium said.

“We hope these photos will be a story for our children. They will be able to know the history behind the SGR,”he added.

“China and Kenya are two great nations. Chinese and Kenyans are two great peoples”. Am glad to say that next month Uhuru Kenyatta will be attending the Belt and Road summit. He will be the only African president attending the summit. 28 heads of states will be attending,” Mr.Yao Ming: Councilor, Embassy of China in Kenya said.

China and Kenya have a significant relation aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure and its people.

Kelvin Kimani won the top prize

The top prize is KShs 400,000 (approx. $4000), the runner up KShs. 200,000 (approx. $2000) and the third position KShs 100,000 (approx. $1000). There will also be cash prizes for 7 auxiliary positions.

The SGR will extend to Uganda ,Rwanda and Congo and will be the foundation of the railway network in the future.
