A man in his early 20s has been arrested for beheading his mother in Umuchagu Osokwa of Abia state.

Christopher Nwajei, who is an apprentice welder, had reportedly beheaded his mother with a machete whilst she was preparing dinner.

Nwajei is believed to have then collected some of the mother’s blood and fled the scene.

He was caught hiding in a bush on the outskirts of the community by a search party before being handed over to police.

Nwajei, who blamed the devil for the action, confessed to have beheaded his mother because she had told him that he was not a native of the Umuchagu Osokwa village.

He denied collecting her blood for rituals.

The victim has been confirmed as Cecilia Nwanjie, who has been living alone since the death of her husband.

Neighbours were attracted to the scene after hearing a loud cry from the Nwanjie compound at around 7.30pm. Cecilia’s body was discovered surrounded with blood soaked items.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, stated that the police are currently carrying out a further investigation of the incident.
