U.S says ‘appreciates work’ of Nigerian security for foiling plot to attack embassy
The US embassy in Abuja has responded to the statement by Nigeria’s spy agency that it thwarted a plot by militant Islamist group Boko Haram to attack its premises, BBC reports.
According to the report, the statement says:
“The US Embassy appreciates the work of… Nigerian security forces in fighting terrorism and keeping citizens and residents safe. Nigeria and the US continue to have a strong partnership in countering violent extremism.”
Nigeria’s national security agency on Wednesday said it had foiled a plot by Islamist militant group Boko Haram to attack U.S. and British embassies in the capital, Abuja.
The Department of State Services announced that it had arrested five suspects who were allegedly the masterminds of the thwarted plot.
According to the DSS, the attacks were set to be carried out on March 26.
