Qatari Emir, Ethiopia’s Desalegn agree to cooperate on regional issues
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has wrapped up his two-day visit to Ethiopia, where he held bilateral discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Cabinet members and President Mulatu Teshome.
Leaders from the two countries have agreed to cooperate on various economic issues as well as regional and international matters of mutual concern.
The Qatari Emir and the Ethiopian president on Monday held a round of official talks at the National Palace in the capital, Addis Ababa.
After the meeting, Desalegn thanked the visiting Emir for visiting Ethiopia, pointing out the depth of existing ties between the two countries and also emphasizing his country’s keenness on boosting those relations even further.
His highness the Emir thanked the Ethiopian president for his warm hospitality and expressed his hopes that the visit would strengthen relations between the two nations.
Delegations from the two countries agreed on various aspects, including infrastructure, education and economy, as well as enhancing investment opportunities between the two sides.
Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s next stop is neighbouring Kenya, where he is set to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Nairobi meeting follows Uhuru’s trip to Qatar in 2014 where he met his highness the Emir.
Discussions are expected to centre on ways of bolstering bilateral ties between Kenya and Qatar.
