President Xi Jinping extends message of condolence to Egypt over Sunday attacks
Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a message of condolence to Egypt following Sunday’s terrorist attack that targeted two churches.
Presid4ent Xi on Monday sent a message to his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, extending his profound condolences to the victims of the attack and their families.
In his message, Xi emphasized that China opposes any form of terrorism, and strongly condemns the barbaric attacks.
“The Chinese people will stand firmly with the Egyptian people and resolutely support Egypt’s efforts in safeguarding national security and stability, as well as the fight against terrorism,” Xi said in his message.
Following Sunday’s attacks that killed at least 49 people, President al-Sisi declared a three-day period of nationwide mourning and a three-month state of emergency.
The attacks injured more than 120 people, some of whom were reported to be in critical condition.
President al-Sisi however remained confident that the attacks would not break his country’s resolve, saying Egyptians will come out of this tragedy with more determination.
“The attack will not undermine the resolve and true will of the Egyptian people to counter the forces of evil, but will only harden their determination to move forward on their trajectory to realize security, stability and comprehensive development,” the President said in a statement.
The bombings came on the Sunday before Easter, the day that marks the start of Holy Week for Christians.
