Read < 1 minute

Indian police say the Kenyan woman who claimed she was attacked lied.

Apparently she was suffering from depression and made up the story. The woman has been identified as Maria Burendi.

Burendi was allegedly thrashed by some unidentified men in Greater Noida.

India Today reported that the woman was inside an autorickshaw when some unidentified men pulled her out slapped and beat her in the abdomen without any provocation by the locals near Alstonia Apartments in Sector Pi 1&2. She informed the police, who took her to a local hospital. A medical examination on her confirmed the possibility of an assault, with abrasions on her hands.

Both Indian police and an African student group say she lied.

The woman is pursuing her studies in New Delhi and had come to Greater Noida to see her friend in Sector Pi 1&2.
