President Jacob Zuma appoints new ministers and deputy ministers

South Africa’s president Jacob Zuma has appointed 10 new ministers and 10 deputy ministers following one of the biggest culls of a cabinet since the advent of democracy.

The new appointments were confirmed in a statement from the Presidency issued Friday.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebesi Jonas have been fired and replaced with Malusi Gigaba and Sifiso Buthelezi.

Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle follows two days of drama in the country. Most media were reporting that the tide had turned against the president, and that he was close to being asked to step down,

Here is the list of the new ministers and deputies according to the statement.

  10. Minister of Communications, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo

Zuma extended his gratitude to the outgoing Ministers and Deputy Ministers for their service to the country and  wished the new Ministers and Deputy Ministers the best in their new responsibilities.
