Kenyan born artist’s detailed hand-carved scenes on wooden vessels
Gordon Pembridge is a Kenyan born and New Zealand-based artist.
He has developed a lifelong bond with nature which has in turn become his source of inspiration for his impressive wooden vessels. The vessels incorporate elements of natural history and portray colourful local wildlife.
Pembridge was born in Kenya and spent his first ten years in the east African nation before moving to New Zealand where he completed his education at boarding school in Wanganui, also attending art school and various courses in design and chose the photographic trade as a career.
He obtains majority of his timber from storm-felled trees and shapes it with lathe, boredpanda.com reports. The magic happens when he meticulously hand-carves incredibly detailed wildlife scenes with a high-speed engraver.
These often feature flora and fauna from his most beloved places – Africa and Oceania. Finally, Gordon forms fitting color compositions and applies them with an airbrush.
