Liberia

There are just a few days left until Liberian election authority wraps-up a voter registration exercise ahead of this year’s presidential election.

Liberians will elect a replacement for outgoing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on October 10.

Observer groups are however warning that the current challenges facing the country could affect the voter turn-out.

The country’s National Election Commission has pledged that this year’s election with be a success, saying it will be historical.

It’s the first time since the 1940s that a Liberian president will stand-down and another democratically elected will take their place.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been in power since January 2006, and is in the history books as Africa’s first female president.
