Eight die in a stampede during food donation in Zambia

Zambian Police say eight people have been killed and 28 others injured during a stampede to collect food donation in Zambia, according to a report by Xinhua.
At least 35,000 people rushed to Olympic Youth Development Center to receive food after a moment of prayers by a group known as Lesedi Seven.
The stampede happened as people pushed through to enter the Center in the early morning hours on Monday. Five people died on the spot and three others in hospitals they had been taken to for medical attention.
“We have since dispersed the gathering and an inquiry into the matter has been instituted,” Esther Katongo, the police spokesperson
Lesedi Seven group associated with the Church of Christ had issued a statement last week that it will be donating food parcels, which includes maize meal to 35,000 people and that most of the recipients would be people with special needs, unemployed as well as other members of the public.
