His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of the Kingdom of Morocco arrived for his first visit to Ghana on Thursday, February 16, 2017. The King’s proposed earlier visit scheduled for January 18, 2017, was postponed to this month.

King Mohammed VI was received at the Kotoka International Airport at 5pm today by Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and other government officials.

His majesty’s visit seeks to deepen the existing cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco.  The two countries will define new areas of co-operation that would serve their mutual interests.

President Akufo-Addo is set to hold bilateral talks with King Mohammed VI, before hosting him to an official lunch at the Presidency today.

The king will head back to Morocco on Saturday, February, 18, 2017. After which the His Royal Highness will visit other four countries, Ghana, Côte D’Ivoire, Guinea-Conakry, Zambia and Mali.

The next stop is expected to be Guinea. King Mohammed VI is said to pay a two-day official visit to Guinea, starting February 22 according to Guinea’s media reports.

According to Morocco World News, the King’s visit to Guinea’s capital, Conakry,  will give the royalty an opportunity to express his gratitude to  President Alpha Condé for his major role in the readmission of Morocco to the African Union (AU) during the 28th Summit of the AU held in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa in late January, 2017.

“In addition to the economic aspect of the King’s visits, Morocco seeks to prompt Ghana and Zambia, historic supporters of Polisario, to reconsider their stance on the Western Sahara issue” said the report by MWN.
