President Barrow: The Gambia will not leave the ICC
The Gambia’s new President Adama Barrow reiterated his pre-election promise that the country will not leave the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Barrow made this comment while assuring the visiting EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica who is in the country as part of efforts to streamline relations with the tiny West African country.
Mimica tweeted about the new president’s position which reversed the decision of his predecessor Yahya Jammeh who had denounced it as the “International Caucasian Court for the persecution and humiliation of people of colour, especially Africans”.
.@BarrowOfficial1 confirms #TheGambia is to rejoin @IntlCrimCourt . Excellent news & very good signal of re-engagement w/ int'l community.
