AFCON 2017: Ghana chasing elusive fifth title

Read < 1 minute

Ghana

Ghana are chasing an elusive fifth Africa Cup of Nations title in Gabon, but must overcome Cameroon in the second semi-final game that will be played tonight, with Egypt awaiting them in the final on Sunday.

The Black Stars have had great performances in the past, but are yet to win an AFCON title.

The last time they won the coveted continental trophy was way back in 1982.

The West African’s reached the final of the 2015 edition, but lost to eventual winners Cote d’Ivoire who beat them through a penalty shoot-out.

The game tonight will be the Black Stars sixth consecutive semi-final of AFCON, and will be looking to shrug off their reputation of falling short when it matters most.

Ghana booked their place in the last four stage of the tournament after dispatching the Democratic Republic of Congo by 2-1, thanks to the Ayew brothers.

Odds might be in favour of the Black Stars over Cameroon due some of Europe-based Cameroon players rejection of AFCON call-ups heading into the tournament.

The Indomitable Lions edged a more fancied Senegal boasting of Liverpool star Sadio Mane, and will draw motivation from that win when they face Ghana tonight.

The game starts at 1900GMT.
