Egyptian coach Hector Cuper expressed his confidence in The Pharao’s ability to win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, a feat that would extend the North Africans’ AFCON title record to nine.
Egypt will face Burkina Faso today in the first semi-final game of the competition, looking to reach the final.
The Pharaohs missed the last three editions of the continental showpiece after the country went through political turbulence.
Before their misses, the Egyptians had won the AFCON title three times in a row, the first country to ever do so.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Cuper said his team will play today’s game to progress to the finals that will be played on Sunday.
Captain Essam El-Hadary who accompanied the tactician to the press briefing, also reiterated The Pharaohs intentions for the semi-final game, saying they want to win the tournament.
The record making El-Hadary said he tells the young squad stories of past winning experiences to make them want the win even more. He also said they have the ability and zeal to lift the trophy on Sunday.
The game will be played at 1900GMT.
