Trump’s immigration ban raises concerns among countries

Trump’s executive order on immigration has raised concerns among other countries and international organizations.

The United Nations Refugee Agency and the International Organization for Migration called on the Trump administration to continue offering asylum to people fleeing war and persecution, saying its resettlement program was vital.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed those fleeing war and persecution, saying that Canada would take refugees banned by the U.S.

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May said her country did not agree with Trump’s curbs on immigration.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault commented that France was concerned over a number of decisions made by Trump, particularly his move to restrict refugee arrivals.

United Kingdom has also weighed in on the Trump travel ban. Prime Minister Theresa May has told her foreign secretary and home secretary to contact their American counterparts over the ban.

Several British politicians have slammed Trump’s executive order as divisive. Prime Minister May has come under fire from the public for not earlier condemning the order. Initially she said it was up to the United States to determine its policies toward refugees.

A later statement revealed that May did, quote, not agree with this kind of approach.
