
Nigerian navy uncovers illegal training camp in Lagos, arrests 16
Naval officers attached to the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Lagos state have uncovered an illegal training camp at Oto-Awori, Ijanikin, along Lagos used by a syndicate to train prospective applicants into the Nigerian Navy, Vanguard reports.
Four management staff of a maritime agency were arrested for acting as Naval officers, and 12 recruits who had paid to be admitted into the Navy.
The trainees were discovered to have come from different parts of Nigeria. Among them were three ladies. They said that they had paid N30, 000 ($95) for the training, after which they had already paid N150, 000 ($476) as recruitment fees into the Nigerian Navy.
According to Vanguard, the trainees claimed to have heard of the notice from the internet. Others said they were contacted by friends and relatives. The suspects were handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps
