Zambian military deployed to battle armyworm invasion

Read < 1 minute

Zambia

Zambia’s army has been deployed to combat army worms around the country’s maize fields in efforts to curb a potential crop fail.

Army worms are capable of wiping out entire fields, and if not dealt with, can lead a whole nation into starvation.

Maize is Zambia’s staple food, and as such, government efforts to protect its growth is warranted.

According to the country’s disaster management unit, 124,000 hectares have been invaded by the moths and the government has so far managed to spray 86,000 hectares.

The fight is still on however.
