Gambia’s communication Minister Sheriff Bojang resigns

Gambia’s communication minister, Sheriff Bojang, has resigned from his post. He says he left to protest President Yahya Jammeh’s refusal to accept defeat in last year’s presidential election.
Several ambassadors have also been sacked by the President, all belong to the group that implored him to accept the results of December 1 polls and step down.
The Communication Minister’s resignation is the first high-profile Cabinet defection since opposition leader Adama Barrow won the presidential polls.
After initially conceding defeat, Jammeh changed his mind a week later saying his party would challenge the results in court.
In a statement Bojang said efforts to contest the results were an attempt to subvert the express will of the Gambian people.
