“In the last one week since we launched massive operations in Sambisa Forest, we have arrested over 40 foreigners. We will come up with the details later after the profiling of these suspects. They are all being debriefed. But we discovered that there were so many foreigners in the midst of Boko Haram.” A military source told the Daily Post
“Many insurgents, including their leaders, were killed and many were captured. Many insurgents are now fleeing. The situation now is that Boko Haram insurgents have been dispersed and dislocated.” Added the source
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, announced the retake of the forest on December 24terming it as the “final crushing” of Boko Haram. This is one of the biggest achievements by the Nigerian government against the terrorists who terrorized the north for seven years.
“We salute the men and women of our beloved armed forces. Their courage, determination and sacrifice made this achievement possible,” the People’s Democratic Party, PDP said in a statement signed by its interim spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, adding “Beyond Sambisa all the other forests which criminals used as hideouts and bases must equally be cleared by the military. Forests such as Birnin Gwari, Zamfara, Southern Kaduna, Enugu and Benue have become killing fields. They must all be cleared of criminal elements.”
