AWCON champions Super Falcons on Wednesday refused to vacate a hotel in Abuja in protests of the Nigeria Football Federation’s failure to pay their bonuses following their win over Cameroon on Saturday.

The newly crowned African Women’s football champions claim that the NFF has not paid their allowances, match bonuses and salaries of their coaches that have accrued for over eight months.

The Falcons beat hosts Cameroon 1-0 to lift the coveted trophy for the eight time.

Desire Oparanozie scored the only goal that saw the Falcons beat the Indomitable Lionesses in a nervy final match played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports Stadium in Yaoundé.

The win by Nigeria saw coach Omagbemi become the first woman to win the title both as a player and as a tactician.

The NFF blamed their failure to pay the players on severe economic challenges, saying the money is not readily available.

NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said in a statement that the federation would pay the players their dues once it receives the same from the government.
