Upcycling initiative provides protection, jobs for the homeless in South Africa

Survival is no easy feat for homeless people in South Africa, even on warm summer nights.

Street Sleeper, a Cape Town-based initiative, is trying to change this with innovative sleeping bags which double up as backpacks. They’re made out of old advertising billboards which can’t be recycled and are often dumped in landfill sites. Street Sleepers employs and trains people who wouldn’t necessarily be considered eligible employees.
