China to train 500 media professionals from Latin America

President Xi Jinping announced China’s plan to provide training to 500 media professionals from Latin Americaand the Carribean over the next five years, with a center already established to host visiting journalists.

The President was addressing a China-Latin America media forum in Santiago, which has attracted senior executives from around 100 leading media agencies in China and Latin America.

Xi encouraged media professionals from both China and the Latin America to work together, stressing that media plays a major role in deepening friendships.

“As an ancient Chinese saying goes – when we speak a common language and live according to a common set of principles, no distance is enough to separate us. Exchanges in the media sector are an important component of China-Latin America relations. Our media sectors play an integral role in deepening the friendship between our peoples.”

The Chinese president is also calling on Chinese and Latin American media organizations to become more active on addressing major issues, such as world peace and development.
