Uganda is reeling at a mysterious killing that involved two men at Game Stores in Lugogo neighbourhood in Kampala capital city.

A Ugandan child rights activist, Kenneth Watmon Akena was shot to death allegedly after his car dented another man’s car. City businessman, Matthew Kanyamunyu who owned the other car reportedly shot Akena after the incident, according to a report by the Daily Monitor.

The victim was laid to rest by hundreds of mourners calling for an investigation into the fatal shooting.

“The government, judiciary, security and every one in society should act to ensure justice. Akena’s death was gruesome,” said Fr Christopher Ojok, the parish priest of Omiya Onyima Catholic Parish

A woman who claimed to have witnessed the weekend shooting is reported to have gone missing. Mama Namanda, an elderly maize vendor is said to have been arrested by the police Tuesday evening.

“The police came and talked to her and returned in the evening and took her away,” Witness’ colleague who operates nearby told the Daily Monitor on conditions of anonymity

Uganda’s Kampala Metropolitan Police has rejected the claims that they arrested the woman. Further adding that, a man who is fruit vendor believed to have information on the shooting is under surveillance.

The prime suspect, Mr. Kanyamuyu is under police custody together with his girlfriend whilst police investigate his phone records among other things.

Matthew Kanyamunyu’s family released a statement claiming that it is not their son that shot Akena, arguing that unknown assailants were after Ms Cynthia Munwangari, Kanyumunyu’s counterpart.

Akena was shot in the stomach at about 8pm on Saturday and succumbed to bullet wounds later in hospital on Sunday morning. The gun in question is reported to be missing and mystery, fear and suspicion shrouds the events leading to the death of the victim.

“No trace of blood was found in Mr Kanyamunyu’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in which he ferried Akena from one hospital to another for more than 30 minutes after the shooting incident. Did Akena not have any blood in his body?” asks the Daily Monitor
