Over 60 percent of the Boko haram terrorist group terrorising northern Nigeria are not Nigerians judging from their current activities says Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai according to a report by Premium Times.

“I want to bring to your attention that while the Boko Haram (insurgency) can be said to have started in Nigeria, by and large as at today, I can say that almost 60 per cent of the insurgents are from our neighbouring countries. You can see that almost all of the recently surrendered insurgents are not Nigerians.” Said Mr. Burutai

This follows the 240 Boko Haram fighters and their families that surrendered in Chad in the past month.  Most of the terrorists were Chadian.

Nigeria is the third country in the world hit most by terror attacks according to the 2016 Global Terrorism Index report. At least 4095 Nigerians were killed in 2015 by the Boko haram militia.

Chad, Niger and Cameroon have also been affected by the Boko Haram menance.

“This is a challenge that impacts more on the Nigerian side than the other countries. But by and large, our military is up to the task and we will continue to do our best to ensure that our country is secured,” Buratai said
