Morocco’s mosques going green for clean energy commitment
The Green mosques are one hundred percent Morocco’s idea. The came up in 2014. Ministry for Endowments and Islamic Affairs, ministry of energy and state investment agency came together and thought of a way to bring the energy transition in Morocco.
The project is aimed at reducing energy consumption electricity consumption of public buildings and the country is starting with the mosques. It’s also aimed at creating awareness for inefficiency in energy. The LED lights being used at the mosque has helped cut down electricity use by 90 percent.
Its goal is a 40-percent reduction in energy costs at 15,000 mosques around the country that consume an average of 90 kilowatts a day SIE state energy investment company says.
The upgrades will also benefit the faithful, since they will be able to access hot water for washing and air conditioning available in the rooms where they do their prayers.
