Borussia Dortmund’s Gabonese striker Aubameyang dropped for “internal reasons”
Borussia Dortmund’s Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dropped for the German club’s Champions League match against Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday for “internal reasons”.
Reports however suggest that the prolific forward was left out of the squad because he had travelled to Italy on Monday to party.
Aubameyang was seen in the stands as his club grilled out a 1-0 win against the visiting side.
His coach refused to divulge any reason for the omission of the 27-year-old, only saying that it was an “internal issue.”
“It is an internal issue and will remain an internal issue,” coach Thomas Tuchel said.
Tuchel also refused to say whether there would be any disciplinary action taken against Aubameyang.
Aubameyang has already netted three times in the Champions League this season, and has another 11 league goals so far.
He is expected to start Dortmund’s weekend game against Hamburg.
“The internal reasons are exactly that, internal,” the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said. “I will not say anything. But the good thing is he will be fresh against Hamburg. He will be back in the squad against Hamburg.”
