Uganda’s main opposition leader Kizza Besigye was on Monday arrested and driven to an unknown location, the Africa Review reports.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader was arrested at his home in Kasangati Wakiso District.

The arrest came after other opposition leaders, including the country’s capital Mayor Erias Lukwago, paid Dr Besigye a visit at his home following his return from the US where he had been for about two weeks.

A scuffle ensued between Dr Besigye and police officers moments before he was arrested. The officers had blocked the road that leads to his home.

Dr Besigye got out of his house, asked the police to remove their barricades but when they seemed adamant, the visibly angry FDC leader engaged them physically.

Dr Besigye was arrested and forced into a waiting police van and driven away.
