Ugandan hawkers accused of taking business away from formal stores

Ugandan authorities say they will allow hawkers to sell their merchandise on the streets, but only in selected parts of the capital, Kampala.

This is part of an effort to reduce congestion in the city, but also to address complaints from the formal traders. Shopkeepers say the increasing number of street vendors is putting them out of business.
